Across the Dial: July 25, 2020

Well here goes nothing…

  1. SPORTS: Steve Czaban and Scott Linn are back in action (The Team 980, Washington, DC). After rotating time off, Czaban and Linn filled a whole week of content. Despite the expected ‘work-from-home’ technical issues, I call this past week (20-24 July 2020) as a solid block of shows. MLB and NBA are ramping up with real games that count and the NFL is making final arrangements for the season. This means there is actual sports content to discuss, which provides the discussion topics of things that entertain us and isn’t so damn serious.
  2. SPORTS: I caught up with the Tech Sideline podcast (Virginia Tech Sports, Blacksurg, VA). Their latest offering was first published earlier this month. No Evan Hughes, who I think is pro’s pro despite his youth. Will Stewart and Chris Coleman held it down. I was entertained. Probably the last TSL podcast until late August. Their podcast programming relies heavily on student hosts like Hughes, who are usually away from campus in the summer.
  3. SPORTS: Fantasy Footballers! The Fantasy Footballers Podcast (Arizona) is back up to three shows a week. I’m a big fan of their work. I’m really looking forward to the NFL/fantasy football season. Last year’s leagues have already auto-renewed for me (redemption time, hopefully). For the first time, I bought their $30 Ultimate Draft Kit for the 2020 season a few weeks back… feedback: it’s fine. Kinda expected more (game logs, please!), but it’s OK. Either way, it was the first monetary contribution I’ve made toward their productions. I like their stuff, so I’m good with the transaction, even if it isn’t all I dreamed of.

These are my takes for the moment. That wasn’t so hard. ‘Til next time…
