Across the Dial, September 13, 2020: New ACC Sports Podcast, “Atlantic & Coastal”

An effort was made.

See, Twitter is good for stuff.

Presenting Atlantic & Coastal

Over this past weekend, The Athletic’s Virginia Tech football beat writer, Andy Bitter (@andybittervt) tweeted about a new ACC sports podcast available at all your major podcast platforms, not just behind The Athletic’s paywall.  As explained, this show will cover ACC football and basketball (essentials only, thank you).  Looks like content will be delivered on a weekly basis and shows run about up to an hour long.

As an ACC country lifer and VT backer, this is a welcomed addition to my radio listening rotation.  I’m familiar with Andy Bitter’s work, both in writing and podcasts. He’s a displaced Wisconsin alum who took a job covering VT for The Roanoke Times, before an awkward divorce involving a Twitter follower lawsuit.  I listened to the VT football podcast with Bitter and Aaron McFarling, which was fine, and I thought they had good chemistry.

I was able to check out the inaugural show, and the content was pretty solid:  a lot of laying the groundwork for the show and interviews with other ACC football team beat writers from The Athletic (presumably).

I’m not sure who produces the podcast, but the music is a bit weird in my opinion (it reminds me of something you’d hear in a spa). Another issue, which was common in the Bitter-McFarling show, is the s***** audio quality.  There’s got to be relatively easy and cheap ways to fix the audio quality of the show.  It is an audio-only format, and sound quality should be emphasized.  New mic or software maybe?

Minor gripes not withstanding, I subscribed and will continue to listen.  I’m in.
