Across the Dial February 7, 2021: Continued Demise of The Team 980

As an admitted Dallas Cowboys fan, I’ve spent some time looking for Cowboy radio content for some time. Sometime around 2012-13ish, I stumbled across 105.3 The Fan in DFW. I had heard of a Randy Galloway ruling the airwaves in talking everything Dallas Cowboys, but after a couple listens, I realized that Galloway wasn’t what I was looking for. I felt like he was the Kornheiser of the DFW market: an undoubted legend, mainly for print, but living more off the name when on air.
On the same station, I found the Newy Scruggs and Ritchie Whitt on mid-day, and I liked it a lot. Unfortunately, Newy was swapped out for a “Greggo” character that had history in the market. After that point, the show became unlistenable, and I quit listening to Cowboys radio, and didn’t really look for any new shows for a while.
A week or so back, I revived my search for Cowboys radio content. I consulted my go-to source for random yet specific questions: reddit. The r/cowboys subreddit pointed me to “About Them Cowboys,” an Athletic podcast (same folks that brought you the previously-profiled “Atlantic & Coastal ACC” podcast).
Featuring hosts Jon Machota and Kevin Turner (Dallas beat writer, I presume), About Them Cowboys brings the passion and edge of Dallas backers delivered by media insiders. I like the chemistry so far and the content has been juicy with all the drama surrounding Dallas these days. I like it and will stay tuned.
